Creative ways to ask someone to a dance?

I am looking for ideas from high school students on creative ways to ask someone to Homecoming, Sadie Hawkins, or other major dances. I have to write an article on this topic and am looking for fun, creative ideas. I have heard of scavenger hunts that end in asking someone to a dance, writing out "Will you go to the dance with me" on a white bed sheet and hanging it from the school's roof or flagpole, and spelling it out with colored lights outside of the person's home and turning it on at night. What ways have you used (besides the obvious of just asking) or heard of? Thanks.
